I have always been fascinated by aviation for as long as I can remember but
it wasn't until 2 years ago that I decided to turn my dream into a reality. I
was 31 at the time and it was now or never.
I woke up one morning in
August and the conversation with my wife went like this:-
Me
:- "I want to learn to fly"
Wife :- "Why don't you then?"
Me :- "It will cost us about £6,000"
Wife :- "Well if it is something you have always wanted to do then just go
for it"
Me :- "You sure?"
Wife :- "If you don't do it you will only regret it and be a pain in the
neck to live with"
Me :- "Ta very much"
So I got out of bed
and within a hour I found myself on the phone to Cardiff Wales Flying Club
booking my introductory lesson.
My instructors name was Steve Rees. He was
very experienced and I got on with him from the start.
The
introductory lesson was even better than I had imagined and I was well and truly
hooked from day 1.
Steve eventually left as I was starting my navigation to seek pastures new and I
was at a bit of a loss as to which instructor to go with.
I had a choice of 3 in my mind but eventually chose Anthony Mayo. He was the
instructor that sent me on my first solo because Steve was on holiday at the
time, so I thought that if he had faith in my abilities after 30 minutes flying
then he would be an excellent choice.
Anthony Mayo's style was totally different to Steve's and his "cool, calm
and collected" manner made me relax and ENJOY the training.
So before I know it I have passed the skills test (eventually)
